每日一字 : understand vs understood

到底當你想表示你明白對方講嘅嘢
你應該講 “Understand.” 定 “Understood.” 呢?
要知道個答案
首先我哋要一齊認識吓
兩個有關嘅文法規則
我盡量講得簡單啲
你地都忍耐吓,好無?😊

第一個規則就係如何寫作指示句
當我地想發出一個指示
我哋會喺個句子開頭
唔放任何 subject
即係唔放任何 he, she, it, I, you, they, we
Peter, Mommy, my friends, your dog
就出一個動詞嘅真身(無 ed, s, ing 等等)
咁就係一個指示句喇!

譬如:
Sit!
Close the door, please.
Please tidy up the room.
Look away if you are a cow or a tiger.

咁即係話……
如果你話 Understand.
同 Sit. 一樣
你係俾緊一個指示
叫對方去明白
而唔係代表你自己明白呀!😱

另外一個想你哋認識嘅規則係
喺 informal English 裡面
一啲太明顯有共識嘅字
我哋會滅咗嗰啲字佢
我哋一齊睇睇以下例子:

“Thank you.”
雖然佢包含咗指示句嘅特性
就係一開頭係一個動詞嘅真身
但因為後面係 you
所以無可能係 you thank you
特別係喺對方啱啱幫咗一個忙之後講
呢個句子太明顯個 subject 係 I- I thank you.
所以將 I 滅咗佢
得番 Thank you.
去表達我多謝你。

“See?”
呢個句子本來係 Do you see? 或 Did you see?
(邏輯上兩者嘅結果都一樣,
所以要表達「你睇吓?」嘅意思
兩個都可以用)
因為佢係一條問題
所以一定唔係指示句
亦好明顯唔係 Have you see? Did I see? 等等
(你同對方講緊嘢,突然喺度問其他人
或自己睇唔睇到,飲醉酒乎?)
所以一定係 Do you see? 或 Did you see?
於是我哋亦可以將 Do/Did you 滅咗佢

好,戲肉到喇
“Understood.” 呢句短句子
喺英文人嘅眼中
亦係好明顯係 It is understood.
如果你一路覺得:「唔係喎,我覺得唔太明顯咋喎!」
咁可能因為你未夠熟悉啲 tenses 啫
呢句說話裏面 It 係代表對方想同你講嘅嘢
成句嘅意思係對方想同你講嘅嘢被明白
咁即係變相就係你明白佢想講嘅嘢

咁即係話
困擾咗好多人多年嘅問題
去表達「我明白你意思。」
到底應該用 “Understand.” 定 “Understood.”

P.S. 但如果你走去加番個 I
就扭轉晒成個局面
I understand 完全可以代表我依家明白
但 I understood. 嘅意思
就變成我之前明白
唔一定代表我依家明白架!
